What's In A Name?
Fredwick Photography was born from the union of two passions and two names — Frederick and Smithwick. Together, Katherine and Nicholas combined their creative vision, love for adventure, and shared dedication to storytelling to create something greater than the sum of its parts. The name Fredwick represents not just a partnership in life, but a collaboration built on artistry, exploration, and a shared belief in capturing the moments that matter most.
Katherine Frederick
Lead Photographer
Founder and lead photographer of Fredwick Photography, Katherine Frederick is driven by a deep love for travel, the outdoors, and storytelling through the lens. Her work blends adventure and authenticity — capturing the real, unscripted moments that make each story unique.
When she’s not behind the camera, Katherine leads a local trail group and volunteers with outdoor nonprofits to bring environmental education and stewardship opportunities to young kids. Her passion for nature and community shines through in every session, inspiring others to explore, connect, and see the beauty in their own stories.
Nicholas Smithwick
Associate Photographer
As the Associate Photographer at Fredwick Photography, Nicholas Smithwick is the technical mastermind who helps bring Katherine’s creative visions to life. While he occasionally steps behind the lens — most often to capture the adventures of their own family — his true passion lies in the artistry of editing and post-production and front of house operations.
With a meticulous eye for detail and expertise in Photoshop, Nicholas transforms raw moments into the polished, storytelling images that define the Fredwick Photography style. His blend of precision, patience, and creativity ensures that every final image reflects both the heart of the moment and the artistic vision behind it.
